Factoid About The Eureka Area
Did You Know...What Happened at the Eureka Train Depot?
The Eureka Train Depot was once a station on the Great Northern Railway's Empire Builder in Eureka, Montana. But, it was closed in 1970 , when Lake Koocanusa was made. That resulted in the flooding The Kootenai River along with Rexford, MT, where the lines used to run from Eureka to Libby. Up near the town of Stryker, the Flathead Tunnell was constructed to bypass Eureka and go to Libby. Those railroad tracks are still in use in Eureka today. They operate as a branch line that runs to Whitefish and the Flathead Tunnel but are mostly used to transport lumber and other goods to and from Eureka.

The tracks that were in Old Rexford are still there, underwater in Lake Koocanusa.
